Policy & Procedure

The IDU are consulted on all policies and procedures implemented by the AA in relation to their staff, as well as any changes to existing policies and procedures. As the recognised trade union, we are the only trade union consulted on matters of this nature. These are the very same policies and procedures that we deal with daily when we represent our members as individuals, and when we deal with collective issues such as organisational restructure or redundancy. Simply put, we know these policies inside out, as such there isn’t another trade union better equipped to represent AA staff.

Again, like our work on pay and pension, our work on policy & procedure is something that all AA staff – members and non-members alike benefit from. However, the fact that all benefit from our work here – is not a rationale for not being an IDU member. Being a member of the IDU gives you a platform to have your individual voice heard, and to be part of a collective voice. It gives you the opportunity to have your say on collective issues. There is much to be said for being a member in simple acknowledgement of the fact that you benefit from so much we do for AA staff as a whole, but more than that It also ensures you will be represented as an individual if you ever need it – with disciplinary, grievance, or capability hearings – by a trade union that knows the detail of these policies like no other.

Alternatively, if you are in need of immediate representation, contact your local representative directly. If you do not know who your local representative is, or just have a general question about the AA’s policies call us directly on 0844 800 4429
